To My Sun Room
It is so nice to have a Sun
room where I can come and do some sewing. Be it mending, embroidery,
needlepoint, just sewing or just relaxing.
I set up this room because of
very special gift from my daughter Deirdre. A spirit flower. Well as you can see
it has grown!
Don't be surprised to hear a
bird in here, I have a canary in here What a lovely combination flowers and the
song of a canary. Don't they have a lovely song?
Meet 'Chipper' a lovely
canary I got Christmas of 2003.
What room with flowers would
be complete with out African Violets? They always remind me of my
Grandmother Rose. She always had some around the house. I remember telling
me now delicate they were and never get the leaves wet. To always water
them from the bottom.
My Grandmother Rose also did
crochet. She did such fine, delicate work. She made dollies, trimmings for
pillow cases. She also made my lace table cloth. Here are some examples of
her work. The grapes are filled with bottle caps. on the left is a napkin ring.
She used this pattern a lot to make pillowcases and dresser scarves. The next is
a small table doiley.
Cultivating an aloe vera
plant is like having a first aid kit on the windowsill. In case of a minor burn
or cut, they break off a leaf and use the clear, slick gel oozing from its
center as an ointment.
When a leaf is cut, a
orange-yellow sap drips from the open end. As a drink this bitter sap has a very
strong laxative effect. In the late 1800's early 1900's aloe vera was drank, the
most used raw material for laxatives in the world and although many synthetic
laxatives have largely replaced it on the world market there is still a demand
for this product as a raw material for laxatives. for a laxative.
I can't forget to introduce
'Willie the Freeloader', a cockateil. He is around 21 years old. Mostly squaks.
He was given to me 5 years ago and the person who owned him had to go into a
nursing home. She was sure he was at least 16 years old then. She never handled
him nor really taught him to talk. They can talk if started when they are young.
He will let you know if he doesn't like something you are doing even if it has
nothing to do with him.
